There are vintages that time does more than simply evolve: little by little, it reveals their true personality. Cos d’Estournel 2016 is one of them. Ten years after its birth, it is now entering its first optimal drinking window. As the renowned NBA player Jimmy Butler recently put it: “Cos d’Estournel 2016. It’s a championship.”

To celebrate this anniversary, Cos d’Estournel is unveiling an exceptional release of the vintage, featuring both Cos d’Estournel and Pagodes de Cos: the first such release since their en primeur launch in 2017, and the last for many years to come.

2016, Harmony

The 2016 vintage was shaped by contrasts. Following a cold and wet spring, a hot and dry summer placed the vineyard under significant hydric stress, until the life-giving rains of September 13. In this singular context, the meticulous attention given to each individual plot proved decisive. Leaf-thinning, cover cropping, soil management: throughout the season, the decisions made by the teams helped preserve the freshness of the grapes while allowing the expression of the terroir to unfold with the utmost precision.

Graceful without ever fading into the background, generous without excess opulence, Cos d’Estournel 2016 now reveals a harmony of exquisite delicacy and remarkable balance. Its tannins, present yet beautifully integrated, embrace a fine and elegant structure, carried through by a long, lingering finish.

Velvety and silky, Pagodes de Cos 2016 stands out for its charm and precision. Both fine and complex, its tannins bring freshness, texture and pleasure to a wine now at its peak of drinking.

Three 100-Point Scores

This precision and balance have earned Cos d’Estournel 2016 exceptional recognition: two perfect 100-point scores, awarded by Lisa Perrotti-Brown for RobertParker.com and by James Suckling, as well as a score of 98–100 points from Neal Martin.

A Vintage at Maturity. A Case to Treasure.

To celebrate this anniversary, two bottles of Cos d’Estournel 2016 and one bottle of Pagodes de Cos 2016 are presented together in a 10th Anniversary Limited Edition case. Kept at the estate since bottling, they have benefited from ten years of ageing in optimal conditions.

Following Cos d’Estournel 2010 and 2015, the 2016 vintage completes and brings the series of three Anniversary Limited Editions to a close. Conceived as pieces of a single collection, the cases have been designed to be stacked and stored in the cellar.

With Cos d’Estournel 2016, the Anniversary Limited Edition collection is now complete: three vintages, three cases and three distinctive expressions of Cos d’Estournel to be treasured, brought together or enjoyed.
