EXQUISITE, ALLURING, ELEGANT

A fascination with the Far East.

G d’Estournel evokes the wonderment of an explorer returned home from the Far East, his soul replete with luminous memories of majestic Indian elephants, shimmering Burmese gold, the finest of Nepalese silks, the warm glow of Vietnamese lanterns…
A harmony of delectable fruit, a whiff of incense, the sheen of a case inlaid with mother of pearl… and memories of these refined, opulent delights suddenly spring back to life.

Produced on a terroir in the northern Médoc, G d’Estournel 2023 displays its characteristic freshness and remarkable balance. The clay soils on which it is grown and the proximity of the Gironde Estuary allowed its Merlot to compensate for hot weather in early September.

The 2023 vintage offers energy, roundness and tension, with fleshy structure and notes of peppermint and black cherry.

Our vines planted in the northern Médoc near the Gironde Estuary have given rise to a G d’Estournel that strikes an exceptional balance between its characteristic vivacity and the vintage’s generosity.
It is very expressive, with intense fruity notes of blackcurrant and blueberry, the freshness of peppermint, and round aromas of gingerbread.
Rich and energetic, G d’Estournel 2022 is a veritable treat that begs to be shared.

As always, our vineyard in the northernmost reaches of the Médoc experienced more extreme weather—especially greater variations in temperature—than that of Cos d’Estournel. But the ages of the vines that grow there, their deep root systems, meticulous leaf thinning, and the freshness generated by the nearby Gironde Estuary allowed the vines to adapt.
Delicate and pure, G d’Estournel 2021 reveals a touch of salinity occasioned by the Gironde’s briny breezes and refined notes of rosemary, licorice, and sour cherry, resulting in a wine so nuanced and subtle that it is not without recalling an infusion.
A lively, velvety texture accompanies the wine’s characteristic roundness, which is enhanced in the 2021 vintage by aromas of hazelnut, making for a truly delectable wine.

In the 2020 vintage, Merlot from the Goulée vineyard, in the northern part of Médoc, are just as exceptional as they are at Cos d’Estournel. Goulée saw more extreme weather conditions and less rain than Saint-Estèphe, but the vines being aged 35 years old on average, they were able to compensate thanks to their roots, which forever dig deeper from one year to the next, and the fresh air and minerality brought by the nearby Gironde Estuary and ocean.
The resulting wine displays a unique profile: the balance and aromatics of a fresh vintage are accompanied by an acidity and a quality of tannins usually observed in warmer vintages.
G d’Estournel 2020, carried by the richness of the Merlot, is essentially delectable, and marked by notes reminiscent of salty sea breezes and a black pepper touch that lend it a great energy.

The vineyard saw more extreme weather conditions and less rain than Cos d’Estournel. Fortunately, the vineyard was able to compensate for climatic conditions thanks to the age of its vines and their roots, which forever dig deeper from one year to the next, light ploughing efforts—carried out more intensely than usual—and the fresh air brought by the nearby Gironde Estuary.
The 2019 vintage of G d’Estournel delivers vivacity and balance; it is at once fresh and rich, vigorous and discreet. Vibrant and highly spirited, with unmistakable notes of pepper, it is a long, silky wine, whose nose of blackcurrant and violet is highlighted by aromas of eucalyptus, thyme and rosemary.
