En Primeur

The “En Primeur” week is a major event that brings together wine professionals from around the globe at Bordeaux estates, including Cos d’Estournel.

We welcome more than nineteen hundred visitors including negociants, brokers, journalists, sommeliers and opinion leaders during the “En Primeur” week. They come to Cos d’Estournel to be among the first to taste the newest vintage and discover its potential at a very early stage in the winemaking process, a challenging exercise given the young age of the wines!

A Bordeaux tradition dating back decades, these early tastings are filled with valuable moments of animated dialogue and healthy rivalry. At Cos d’Estournel, we present our wines with the same passion that drives our approach to winemaking: a new vintage merits the time and energy needed to share our thoughts and emotions as we discover its character and potential. Every tasting is an opportunity to explain our winemaking processes, our team’s efforts to promote our terroir, the year’s weather conditions and the unique signature of each of our wines.

Barely aged in barrels, our wines are evaluated during the “En Primeur” week and the scores and comments they receive will determine their reputation even before they can be purchased as futures starting in May. It is only some eighteen months later that they will complete their aging process at the estate and be bottled before being sent to their lucky buyers around the globe in the first months of 2021. We are already very eager to begin tasting this exceptionally promising vintage!
