COS100, A Rare and Unique Wine

ARTICLE -

An extraordinary and exceptional wine, COS100 will be sold outside traditional distribution networks. Only two barrelfuls of the wine were produced, yielding 100 Double Magnums (3 liters) and 10 Balthazars (12 liters). Following the unveiling of COS100 at two unprecedented auctions in New York and Hong Kong, the legendary Bordeaux estate Cos d’Estournel is making the remaining 98 Double Magnums available for sale.

Harvested in 2015 in extremely limited quantities and composed entirely of Merlot, COS100 was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the “Parcelle des Femmes,” or “Ladies’ Plot.” Located at the heart of the estate, the “Parcelle des Femmes” was planted by the women of Cos d’Estournel in 1915, during World War I, as their male counterparts battled at the front lines. To highlight the special nature of this vintage, COS100 is exclusively available in large format bottles that give the wine extraordinary aging potential. Each Double Magnum is individually numbered and bottled by hand at the Château. To emphasize the timelessness of this release, each wine bottle will bear a delicately engraved inscription rather than a label and will be presented in bespoke wood and leather boxes, making COS100 a true collector’s piece that can be handed down for generations.

“I created COS100 to pay tribute to our terroir and the women of the estate who planted these vines more than one hundred years ago, guaranteeing the longevity of Cos,” explains Michel Reybier. “A symbol of transmission, COS100 is a unique wine nurtured over several generations, a powerful link between the history it embodies and its promise for the future. I am immensely proud to present this exceptional wine as a testimony of our permanent quest for excellence that fosters the legend of Cos d’Estournel.”

Two auctions led by Sotheby’s were organized for the release of the wine: in New York on February 28, 2018 and in Hong Kong on March 10, 2018. A total of 325,000 euros was raised for the Elephant Family, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of elephants and their natural habitat in Asia, and a natural beneficiary, given that the elephant, the symbol of Cos d’Estournel, holds special meaning for the estate.
