Extraordinary bottles to elevate the moments that truly matter.

The Art of Celebrating in Grand Style

There is something immediately theatrical about the presence of a magnum, a jeroboam, or any large format placed at the center of a table. These bottles do more than occupy space: they enhance it. They instantly signal a special moment, thoughtfully designed to be shared, where people gather around the same wine and the same emotion.

But beyond their majestic silhouette, these bottles convey a simple, almost essential idea: wine is a bond. Opening a large format means offering a shared experience—the same wine, the same vintage, passed from hand to hand. A suspended moment in which differences fade, leaving only shared pleasure. In this ritual, in this assumed generosity, the very spirit of Cos d’Estournel is revealed: to unite, to pass on, to celebrate together.

The Experience of Time

Large formats do not merely impress; their greater volume limits air exchange and slows the wine’s evolution, allowing it to gain in complexity. This results in significantly extended ageing potential. At Cos d’Estournel, two types of corks coexist: the classic cork, used for bottles up to double magnums, and a specific cork reserved for 5-liter formats and above.

This technical attention allows the very large bottles to evolve with particular grace, almost with softness: time works more slowly and more subtly within them. Year after year, the wine unfolds with breadth, offering enthusiasts the promise of a rare moment, a tasting that leaves its mark. Because a large format is not just drunk: it is lived, and it leaves behind a memorable impression.

The Experience of Craftsmanship

If the large format elevates time, it also celebrates craftsmanship. At Cos d’Estournel, each bottle is made to order, numbered, and conceived as a unique piece. Interest in large formats, moreover, continues to grow among enthusiasts around the world.

The range of formats is particularly extensive with Cos d’Estournel and Pagodes de Cos red wines, from the magnum (1.5 L) to the extremely rare primat (27 L), passing through a multitude of containers whose names alone stimulate the imagination: double magnum (3 L), jeroboam (5 L), imperial (6 L), salmanazar (9 L), balthazar (12 L), nebuchadnezzar (15 L), and even melchior (18 L). In white, Cos d’Estournel and Pagodes are available in magnum (1.5 L), double magnum (3 L), and imperial (6 L).

Produced in specialized workshops, often in Italy, each large bottle requires a sequence of precise gestures: bottling, waxing, seal application, drying, and crating. The largest formats, from double magnum up to 27 liters, are entirely hand-waxed.

Finally, each wooden case is designed as a true presentation box, including a numbered certificate with a QR code, guaranteeing origin and traceability. It is the meeting point of technique, beauty, and precision.

A Total Experience

At Cos d’Estournel, a large format is never just a container. It is an intention. A gesture of elegance as much as a declaration of generosity. It brings guests together by embodying what wine offers at its noblest: sharing, patience, and transmission. Even the act of opening it becomes a moment in itself. Some break the wax without a second thought, with a confident gesture. Others remove it carefully, almost like a sculptor. There is no right method—only different ways of entering the experience.

From the vineyard to the table, from gesture to emotion, the large format is a celebration.
All that remains is for you to create the occasion!
