“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

Indeed, a discerning eye was required to see the potential of the majestic architectural gem hidden in a Victorian edifice from 1856. Located between Covent Garden and Bloomsbury, the former Baptist church was renovated under the direction of Jacques Garcia, who brilliantly revived the site’s bohemian, baroque spirit.

When Michel Reybier was looking to open an establishment in London in 2022, he chose this very neighborhood, celebrated by writers and intellectuals.

It would prove the ideal site for L’oscar London, a hotel and restaurant designed as an homage to Oscar Wilde, the great literary figure of the turn of the century best known for his aphorisms, which one could easily imagine him uttering upon entering L’oscar London…

“I can resist everything except temptation.”

Located on the ground floor, the restaurant is the beating heart of L’oscar London. With its onyx bar, mirrored ceilings, golden panels, and original artwork, it offers an atmosphere reminiscent of Venice’s oldest café.

It is a spellbinding place to savor a delectable breakfast, a bistro-style lunch, or an intimate evening meal with a glass of Château La Mascaronne or Pagodes de Cos. Before or after dinner, guests will delight in sipping a cocktail at the Baptist Bar, beneath the spectacular octagonal dome of the site’s former chapel.

“I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.”

An attention to detail is omnipresent, including in the hotel’s thirty-nine spacious rooms and suites, each of which was individually decorated by Jacques Garcia with walls draped in velvet and leather, fireplaces, and artwork.

Room service is of course available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. L’oscar London also features three of London’s most enchanting spaces for special events: The Committee Room, The Library, and The Baptist.
