Goulée. A name that has a certain ring to it, a music to the ear. Goulée was once an island surrounded by the waters of the Gironde Estuary, and reconnected to the mainland following major drainage works carried out by the Dutch in the Médoc starting in the sixteenth century.
A land of audacity and humility, mysterious and wild, Goulée is proof that wine had long been produced on-site despite harsh elements to reveal an unsuspected terroir. Goulée’s vineyard has been part of Cos d’Estournel estate for more than fifteen years. It is one of the last vineyards situated along the Gironde Estuary. A land shaped by sea breeze and tides.
Goulée’s terroir is composed of a gravelly terrace and clay and limestone slopes. It is uniquely situated so as to benefit from constant ventilation from the Gironde and an ongoing supply of cool air thanks to nearby marshland.

Goulée by Cos d’Estournel began with the desire to create a fine wine of great authenticity on an undiscovered terroir. Discoveries, explorations and experimentations require a humble yet daring approach. Above all else it is a human adventure : for the Cos d’Estournel team, Expertise, proven technical prowess and an increasingly precise approach from one year to the next sublimate a highly singular terroir. Due to its location and its singularities, the terroir of Goulée is acutely sensitive, reacting more quickly to meteorological conditions from one year to the next; it is a true “barometer” of each vintage.

Refined and elegant, the Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 2012 has begun to fully reveal itself in the structure of Goulée by Cos d’Estournel. Located in the northernmost reaches of the Médoc, the terroir of Goulée reacted more extremely to weather conditions, resulting in a vintage with great energy. Fruity aromas are very present, along with a lovely balance between peppery, mineral and saline notes on one hand and roundness and sheer pleasure on the other.
